Sound Generating Haptic Bodysuit
The "Collective Narratives" project features a sound-generating haptic body suit designed to enhance the connection between performers and audiences.
The primary objective is to encourage passive audience members to participate more actively in the experience, curate the collective narrative, and influence it in a non-invasive manner.
The haptic suit represents an innovative approach to exploring the body as a musical instrument. What if we could integrate an additional sensory dimension into our artistic expressions? Could our bodily movements and touches be translated into sound, elevating the experience of dance and performance to a new level of sensory engagement? While dance and performance are commonly used to convey emotions and experiences without words, the suit adds an extra dimension to these expressions by translating physical motions and touches into sound.
The suit comprises two components: an e-textile soft circuit and a parametrically designed body suit. The latter is designed to represent sound waves and highlights movement as an expression by utilizing dual-color PLA and stretch fabric methodologies to create an optical illusion of a moving bodysuit, even when static.
